S13 Ep 4 - Wargrave Youth Theatre

The RG10 Podcast Season 13 Episode 4

In this episode, Ben sits down with Chez Annetts, founding member and director of Wargrave Youth Theatre, to discuss the remarkable story of a youth drama group that began with a handful of 11-year-olds back in 1989. Originally called Wargrave Entertainment Drama Group Enterprise, or WEDGE, the group has evolved into a highly popular community youth theatre, now known as Wargrave Youth Theatre.

Chez shares some hilarious memories from early productions, including mishaps on stage, and offers insights into the challenges of running a volunteer-led theatre group with limited resources. She describes the group’s latest production, The Best of British, a creative blend of iconic British TV and stage scenes spanning 60 years. With scenes inspired by Blackadder, Dad’s Army, Matilda, and Billy Elliot, Chez gives a sneak peek at the show and the collaborative fun that went into bringing it to life.

This episode offers a touching look at community spirit, the love of theatre, and the unforgettable experiences that come from a group of friends creating art together—even if it means navigating on-stage disasters like the infamous cardigan incident.
