S16 Ep 6 - From Twyford to Wembley: A life in music

The RG10 Podcast Season 16 Episode 6

This week on the RG10 Podcast we hear from Tony Lyons - working musician, teacher, and familiar face on the Twyford music scene.

Tony talks about a life spent playing music for a living: from seeing Queen at Wembley in 1986 and assuming all gigs would be like that, to first shows that went wrong before the second beat, freezing European tours in leaky vans, and eventually playing Wembley Stadium himself.

We chat about teaching music locally, juggling gigs and family life, terrible band names, and the huge sound of Boxset UK - the two-man band combining accordion, guitar, bass drum and harmony vocals filling festival stages across the UK, Europe and the US.

Tony also discusses Boxset UK’s latest project: setting the poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson to music. They have a special EP launch and live performance at Twyford Library on 30 January at 8pm, in partnership with local literacy charity ABC to Read.

Enjoy a conversation rooted in RG10, full of stories, laughs, and a genuine love for live music.
